Model's Description:

Trictenotoma childreni Beetle 3d model contains 106,884 polygons and 53,444 vertices.

My first succesful ‘complete’ insect scan. The specimen arrived in the post with a little damage (broken horns and head seperated from body) i decided to scan each bit seperately, which although helped in some respects, it made the texturing more difficult, having to bake the diffuse in Max from the high poly meshes crested some artifacts which took the best part of a day to fix. 72 images for the body, 66 for the head. all masked then processed in Photoscan on highest setting. Aligned the 2 peices in Max and exported as OBJ. Mesh clean up and some recultping done in zbrush along with a spline assisted remeshing creating a low poly version, then back to max to unwrap UVs and bake diffuse texture on to the low poly mesh. I then wasted about a day slowly fixing the artifacts and occlusions in photoshop before realising i could do the same but much quicker (and in 3d) in substance painter. -Trictenotoma childreni (minus the horns) size: 6cm in lgenth - Trictenotoma childreni Beetle - 3D model by 3dsam79 (@3dsam79) [3320451]
