3D Jaw Muscles of Prestosuchus chiniquensis 3D Model |
|
Model's Description: 3D Jaw Muscles of Prestosuchus chiniquensis 3d model contains 226,368 polygons and 114,168 vertices. This 3D model of the terrestrial, predatory crocodylomorph Prestosuchus chiniquensis (UFRGS PV0629T) from the Triassic Santa Maria Formation in Rio Grande du Sul, Brazil shows the primitive condition of temporal muscles being largely vertically oriented as well as relatively vertically oriented pterygoideus muscles compared to later crocodylomorph species. Read more on how the evolution of skull shape in crocodilians affected jaw muscle function in Sellers et al (2022) in in Anatomical Record: https://doi.org/10.1002/ar.24912. The original descriptions of this awesome fossil can be found here: doi:10.4202/app.00527.2018 with thanks to Cesar Shultz (UFRGS) for sharing the data.
