Model's Description: Statue of Hercules (Herakles) in gilded bronze 3d model contains 99,992 polygons and 64,006 vertices. Capitoline Museums Inventory Number: 1265 Type: Sculpture Dating: 2nd century BC Material and technique: Bronze Size: 241 cm (7.9 feet) Origin: Rome, Forum Boarium (discovered 15th century) This statue comes from the Forum Boarium in Rome, where it was found during the pontificate of Sixtus IV (1471-1484). The statue likely represented the cult statue whithin the temple dedicated to the Greek hero, and previously thought to be a temple of Vesta (due to its circular form, surrounded by columns). There are significant remains of gilding (gold leaf). Hercules (Greek: Herakles) holds the Apples of the Hesperides in one hand and his signature club in the other. The statue is approximately 250 cm tall (~8 ft), displayed atop a tall pedestal, and is slightly reflective due to the gilding, making it difficult to photograph. Model details: 250 photographs; no post-processing or editing (raw scan reduced to 100k polygons) |
