|
Model's Description: Megalonyx Figurine (VCU_3D_6857) 3d model contains 414,162 polygons and 207,083 vertices. This giant ground sloth (Megalonyx jeffersonii) figurine was purchased by one of my students at Big Bone Lick, Kentucky, a major paleontological site with the remains not only of this species of giant ground sloth, but also mastodons, mammoths, and so many more Pleistocene fossils. Long known to American Indians, they brought this site to the attention of European explorers in the early 1700s, who soon began shipping fossils to eastern North America and then on to Europe. William Clark (of Lewis and Clark fame) collected numerous fossils on behalf of Thomas Jefferson. This figurine was 3D scanned with a NextEngine Desktop 3D scanner. Courtesy of Elizabeth Bolstad |
