A musket is a long gun that appeared in the 16th century and was the most used defensive weapon in a fortress such as Fort Lillo. The walls of a West European fortress were designed for musket fire. During the 17th century, muskets used matchlock ignition (gunpowder was ignited by a slow-burning piece of cord). Only around 1700, they are replaced by flintlock muskets. A bandolier contained a small poach for bullets, several wooden tubes with the right amount of gunpowder and a metal flask with ignition powder. A soldier using a musket was called a musketeer. - Matchlock muskets and bandolier - 3D model by visualdimension |
