Model's Description: Lustrous Galena crystals (±Chalcopyrite) 3d model contains 400,000 polygons and 199,986 vertices. Locality: Cavnic, Romania No.: 6534 Size: 10.1 x 6.5 x 3.3 cm Formula: Galena - PbS; Chalcopyrite - CuFeS2 Description: This sample is from Cavnic hydrothermal ore deposit (Baia Mare mining area, Romania). Galena is the primary ore mineral of lead, used since ancient times. Galena is one of the most abundant and widely distributed sulfide minerals. The Galena is known for its ‘mirror-metallic’ luster and for the stepped structure. This specimen shows well-developed cubic crystals in staggered growth with defined edges. Cleavage fragments of Galena - are one of the most diagnostic properties of Galena is its ability to break by cleavage in three directions that intersect at right angles. This forms cleavage fragments that are cubic and rectangular in shape.
