The oldest verifiable construction activity of the larger estate, which had both residential buildings and all the necessary facilities to enable an almost self-sufficient economy, can be dated to the middle of the 1st century AD. Most probably in the decades around 100 A.D. the foundations were laid for a wide, somewhat offset building, which probably had mud walls. The manor house acquired its typical shape for a villa rustica. At that time it was mostly built of stone. In the last stage of development, the villa had 34 rooms. The area was inhabited by the Boians, who were insignificant at that time and belonged to the “Regnum Noricum”. The area was surrounded by a wall to provide protection from thieves and robbers. The main building of the villa complex was first excavated in 1931 by Alexander Seracsin |
