Model's Description: Capitoline Wolf (Lupa Capitolina) 3d model contains 249,964 polygons and 155,035 vertices. The Capitoline Wolf (Lupa Capitolina in Italian) is a bronze sculpture depicting a scene from the legendary founding of the city of Rome. The sculpture shows a she-wolf suckling the mythical twin founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus. According to the legend, when King Numitor, grandfather of the twins, was overthrown by his brother Amulius, the usurper ordered them to be cast into the Tiber River. They were rescued by a she-wolf that cared for them until a herdsman, Faustulus, found and raised them. The sculpture was long thought to be an Etruscan work (the Italic peoples who were defeated and finally absorbed by the Romans in the 1st century BCE). However, radiocarbon dating suggests it was possible that the bronze was cast sometime 1000-1200 CE. The twins were added in the 1400s, likely by the artist Antonio del Pollaiuolo |
