|
Model's Description: 3D Jaw muscles of Paleosuchus palpebrosus 3d model contains 267,480 polygons and 134,648 vertices. This 3D model of the partly terrestrial, predatory living Cuvier’s Dwarf Caiman, Paleosuchus palpebrosus (FMNH 22817) from South America. Although crocodylians have markedly flatter skulls than their ancestors, Paleosuchus has a markedly more vertical skull than its living relatives and its temporal muscles are also rather vertcially oriented. Read more on how the evolution of skull shape in crocodilians affected jaw muscle function in Sellers et al (2022) in in Anatomical Record: https://doi.org/10.1002/ar.24912. Thanks to the Field Museum of Natural History for providing access to the specimen. Thanks to National Science Foundation 1631684 for supporting the work |
